Landscaping project.  Gateshead.

New garage with garden landscaping and raised decking.

Introduction.

A small courtyard scheme.  The property has a gated access into a private courtyard.  Garden space was limited.  We provded the design for a new feature garage with sleek lines to match the modern aesthetic of the host buildings.  Raised decking was designed as part of the garden re-design. The project was completed in 2021.

Construction of Garage.

The garage proved to be difficult as it was built under Permitted Development, meaning planning permission was not a requirement.  This meant the roof could not exceed a given height (see section).  To overcome this the contractor mocked up a  full scale garage door to ensure the camper van would be able to drive in an out easily.

Piling to avoid drainage

An existing public sewer beneath the proposed garage meant the garage had to be built off piles to avoid any risk of damage to the sewer pipes cracking under the additional load.  The manhole covers can just be seen in the image below. The concrete drive was cut back neatly to provide a neat junction between the existing driveway and the garage floor, which had to be level.  To avoid water draining into the garage(refer to section) a drainage channel was laid across the threshold of the new roller shutter door.
