Replacement of existing conservatory with sun room.

Kitchen/dining area extension.  New downstairs WC, utility and office replacing existing garage.

The existing rear kitchen was small and did not connect well with the garden. The large conservatory was underused, obstructing natural light and views onto the garden from the kitchen.  The proposed extension involved the removal of the entire rear wall  above to provide a large open plan Living, kitchen and dining area.

Photograph showing new opening created in the back of the house, leading into the extension.  The large steel supporting the external wall over  was recessed into the floor zone, resulting in a clean ceiling line with no down stand beam between old and new, providing a seamless link into the sun room.  Externally the extension was rendered along one side to match the existing property.  engineering brickwork elsewhere with a light mortar complements the horizontal timber cladding.   

Doorway leading to the utility and downstairs toilet.  The lobby leads onto the converted office beyond (formerly a garage).  New doors and skirting throughout provides continuation throughout the kitchen and extension.

External  detail showing rendered return and eaves detail with exposed rafters.  External doors and windows in the extension  were finished in grey to complement the colour scheme.


The Living/dining area leads out onto the garden.  The large opening has bi-fold doors that lead onto a decking area leading onto the garden.  The high level roof lights provide natural ventilation to prevent overheating.
